dEAR WHITE PEOPLE

Dear White People,

A hasty reaction to compassionate feelings can make us neglect ourselves which, for some, can lead to resentment toward the folks who initiated those once soft and tender feelings.

Don’t validate what you perceive as my struggles and needs by ignoring your own. 

No offering you would consider giving toward my reclamation of liberation is worth your avoidance of your own dragons.

I’m not referring to your first world privilege problems but the issues keeping you from loving yourself, receiving love from others and living a life that feels mostly fresh and abundant with possibility for you to live your best life on a material and emotional level. What about your life?

Within your helping others is a Trojan intent on helping yourself.

And when we aren’t ready to let go of our idea of our self as anybody’s savior, we keep the farce of our supremacy and the illusion of our autonomy from others. I experience your best intentions for me to the exclusion of your own needs as disinterest in my capabilities and I won’t want to hang out with you no matter how well you give head.

Whether you are more capable of living my life any more gracefully than me is moot because you have your own unique life to live; Be your own hero.

Don’t try to be all Dr Quinn, Mrs. Garrett, John Wayne, or Tarzan with me, dear white people; my story is magical realism and has a Turtle Island Indigenous Anglo-African heroine.

You can have a cameo, be a love interest of a friend or throw down with me but, if you cannot stand with me in our pilgrimage into the new with just as much passion for your own liberation, don’t stand too close to me and definitely do not stand in front of or behind me; This black femme deserves an ace in all positions. Im to busy with my garden spade to be your shield.
