Do these mothers have a choice

I read: Detained children stopped eating and their mothers did too.

Then, I imagined my Makena and me
Fleeing abuse
Seeking sanctuary
And a chance at life.

If we were detained and Makena stopped eating, stopped growing and thriving . . .

I suppose I would too.

Some call it huelga. Others say strike. In a mother's case, it could simply be the powerful bond between mother and child because we suffer with our children.
